Cheyenne Mountain. Located southwest of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain is home to the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, which is 2,000 feet underground and is now used primarily for emergency reasons. Rio Grande Railroad. This narrow gauge railway was opened in 1878 and offers daily scenic rides through the La Veta Pass on restored 1950s Pulllman coaches, a 1930s observation car, a concessions car, and a first-class parlor car. Glen Eyrie Castle. Once the home of Colorado Springs founder, General William Jackson Palmer, Glen Eyrie Castle is an English Tudor style castle that is now in use as a Christian conference center and retreat.
